What Is The First Step For Purchasing A Home

Get in touch with a great loan officer. Don’t know one? Ask your realtor and they should be able to provide you with several options. Finding a great loan officer is just important as finding a great realtor. Please note, a realtor can work with any loan officer but will have recommendations based on your needs.

You want to look for certain traits and characteristics when looking for the right loan office. Are they easy to get in touch with and returns your call when needed? In addition, it is important to have a good connection with your loan officer. You should feel comfortable talking with them and they should be able to explain the loan process to you in a way that you understand. Lastly, you want to find a loan officer that provides you with the best rates or a great loan program that works for you.

Once you have found the right loan officer you will need to submit several documents to them to be properly pre-qualified. This may seem like a scary process but it does not have to be. Pre-qualifications last several months and can easily be updated if you do not find a home right away. The main reason why this step is so crucial is because you need one in order to write a contract on a home. In the current market, there are very few sellers that will accept a contract without a pre-qualification. There is nothing worse than falling in love with a home and not being able to submit an offer because you are not pre-qualified.

In addition, it is beneficial to know what you are looking for in terms of home price and monthly payments. I always tell people that you may qualify for a certain amount on a loan but prefer to purchase at a lower price because it fits better with your budget. These are questions that a loan officer can help answer. Once you have these questions answered, now you are ready to talk with you realtor and come up with a plan for finding the right home for you.
